EF-0 tornado confirmed near Easley, South Carolina late Saturday night



A tornado touched down near Easley, South Carolina late Saturday, with 80 mph winds damaging trees in Pickens County, officials confirmed.

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. — Preliminary weather surveys have confirmed at least one tornado in the northwestern portion of South Carolina as storms swept the state on Saturday night.

The storm, which touched down in Pickens County around 9:56 p.m., had an estimated peak wind of 80 mph and was classified as an EF-0 tornado. National Weather Service surveyors estimated that the store traveled 2.7 miles near Easley in a little over five minutes before lifting up.

Estimates suggest the weak tornado touched down along Adger Road and moved across the south side of Easley. The tornado then crossed several residential neighborhoods, snapping large limbs and uprooting pine trees. Surveys said the storm dissipated over a neighborhood near Crestview Road. Officials said the tornado had a maximum path width of 25 yards.
