Charlotte Airport delays as storms hit the Carolinas

As of 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, 506 flights were delayed at Charlotte Douglas, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware. An additional 32 flights were canceled at Charlotte’s airport. More delays were possible as the storms moved into the Queen City with heavy rain and gusty winds that prevented air travel.

Charlotte airport officials said that ramp operations were temporarily paused due to the weather. Operations resumed normally after the ramp was reopened.

A line of thunderstorms hit the Charlotte metro on Thursday evening and is expected to impact the area for several hours.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Mecklenburg County until 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
