Commonwealth Bank outage: Customers left cashless as transfers function crashes on CommBank app and NetBank

Commonwealth Bank customers have been left without access to their cash as the financial institutions online payment services crashed on Friday.

Customers attempting to transfer funds through the CommBank app or the bank’s NetBank service through PayID are reporting seeing a “spinning wheel of death” before an error message is produced.

“You may be unable to make transfers between your accounts or pay someone using PayID or BSB and account number in NetBank and the CommBank app,” a message in the app said.

“Thanks for your patience.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

Customer who got to the final stage of transferring funds were met with a second message saying the payment “may have failed”, warning them not try to make the payment again straight away.

“Before you try again, wait a few minutes and check your account.”

It appears the issue began around 11am AEST, with the issue still effecting customer after lunch.

User’s were quick to report the outage on popular outage website Down Detector and on social media.

“Bloody Commonwealth Bank app issues on a Friday ffs,” one fuming customer wrote.

“Transfers are down again,” another vented.

Although CBA did not provide an update to customers through its official channels, it appears the issue was resolved a few hours after it was first reported, with cases dropping on Down Detector.
