Fifth rabies case in Lincoln County in 2025 confirmed

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Lincoln County has confirmed its fifth rabies case of 2025.
The rabies case was uncovered after a raccoon got into a fight with a dog near Outlook Drive in Iron Station, health officials said. The raccoon was sent to the state lab for testing. On Thursday, June 26, the test came back positive for rabies.
Animal Services is asking pet owners to make sure their pets are up to date on rabies shots. You can get a 1-year rabies vaccine for just $7 at Lincoln County Animal Services. Low-cost clinics are also available through Helping Animals to Survive (HATS).
