First drought monitor of November shows more improvement



Both North Carolina and South Carolina have shaved off portions of their drought.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Big news, and good news, with the first drought monitor for the Carolinas of November.

North Carolina and South Carolina both saw improvement on all accounts.

  • Drier than normal conditions (level 1 drought) dropped from 87% to 74%
  • Moderate drought conditions (level 2 drought) dropped from 52% to 29%
  • Severe drought conditions (level 3 drought) dropped from 16% to 2%

The most dramatic change came from the severe drought changes in North Carolina.

  • Drier than normal conditions (level 1 drought) dropped from 66% to 49%
  • Moderate drought conditions (level 2 drought) dropped from 29% to 16%
  • Severe drought conditions (level 3 drought) dropped from 5% to 3%
