Grandfather Mountain welcomes visitors for classes, events, after Helene

Tourism is a huge financial aspect for mountain communities so Grandfather Mountain is ready for visitors to take advantage of its parks, trails and events.

LINVILLE, N.C. — Just under 6,000 feet above sea level, Grandfather Mountain is the highest peak on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. And if you’ve ever been to this gorgeous state park, you’re eager to go back.

Many mountain communities have been struggling since Hurricane Helene but Landis Taylor, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, says Grandfather Mountain is ready for you.

“Helene was obviously a very tough time for us, but the community really came together and we are absolutely ready and need those visitors to come back,” Taylor said.

This summer and fall, the foundation will host workshops, adult field courses and a “Grandfather Presents” speaker series. In fact, our very own Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich will be part of a post-Helene panel in September.

Taylor explains it’s her favorite time of the year because of how beautiful it is. Plus, she says the cooler air is much needed as Grandfather Mountain is typically 20 degrees cooler than Charlotte during this summer period.

Taylor also says the Blue Ridge Parkway – the main corridor between Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain – is open for travel purposes.

If you do decide to visit Grandfather Mountain soon, please remember to respect nature and never leave any trash or items behind.
