Online retailer Amazon Australia launches free same-day delivery across Perth for Prime members

Amazon Australia has launched free same-day delivery of more than 300,000 items across Perth, becoming only the second city in the country to get the service.

The offer will be available to Prime members on eligible orders over $49, starting from Tuesday.

Customers can place an order as late as midday for delivery before 10pm the same day.

Amazon Australia country manager Janet Menzies said the move was a natural extension of its offerings and followed the opening of a new 20,000sqm distribution centre in Jandakot in late 2023.

The $70 million warehouse can hold more than 3 million items and is about the same size as the WACA cricket ground.

“When you think about what allows us to really commit to getting (products faster to customers), what we really need to do is have inventory position close to the customer,” Ms Menzies said.

“We’ve been testing (the same-day delivery option) for quite some time and we’re just so excited to finally be able to announce its general availability.

“We hear from customers in Perth that sometimes they feel like they don’t get as much as other places and we’re really mindful of trying to provide that consistency.”
