Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr: Send in your memories of the iconic news duo to 7NEWS
West Australians are being asked to send in their memories of legendary news duo Susannah Carr and Rick Ardon, as they celebrate a record-breaking 40 years of reading the Seven bulletin together.
Ardon and Carr, who did their first broadcast together on January 24, 1985, are the Guinness World Record holders for longest serving news anchor duo, an achievement ratified in 2022.
To mark the 40-year anniversary, viewers can submit stories and memories of Carr and Ardon at 7news.com.au, some of which would be shared on TV or in print
Seven West Media chairman Kerry Stokes AC lead tributes for the duo as they marked their milestone moment.
Their historic achievement is unmatched anywhere in the world and not only speaks to their unwavering dedication to journalism but also the deep connection they have forged with the WA community.
“Since their first bulletin together in 1985, Rick and Susannah have become household names, proving themselves as the trusted source of news for generations of Western Australians,” Mr Stokes said.
“Over the decades their incredible partnership has earnt the trust and loyalty of their viewers, ensuring 7NEWS has remained Perth’s number one nightly bulletin.”
Seven West Media WA chief executive Maryna Fewster thanked the pair for their dedication, professionalism and passion
“Rick and Susannah have been a constant source of trust and reliability in the Seven newsroom and in the homes of people across this State,” Ms Fewster said.
“This is an incredible milestone and through decades of so much change, they have remained the familiar faces and voices that our viewers have relied on every night.
“Thank you for your exceptional commitment, and for making history with us for 40 incredible years.”
Reflecting on her journey so far, Carr said it had been an honour to have been part of people’s lives for four decades,
“I’m reminded everyday by people I meet in the community,” she said.
“From celebrating major milestones to delivering heartbreaking news, I’ve had the privilege of sharing these moments with our viewers. I’m excited to continue bringing the stories that matter to WA.”
Ardon said it was the pair’s accuracy which had driven their credible reputation.
“I’m so very proud of the work Susannah and I have done over the years to bring trusted and accurate news to the people of Western Australia,” he said.
“We’ve witnessed so many significant moments in history together and there’s plenty more to come.”
7NEWS Perth director Ray Kuka said the pair’s success came after decades of support from the Western Australian community.
“When big stories break, WA turns to Rick and Sue to tell the story,” he said.
“We’ve seen it during every major news event over four decades now. They have made history while telling the stories creating history.
“Their influence extends beyond the screen as Rick and Sue provide incredible leadership and mentorship to the wider 7NEWS team.”
The West Australian’s Ben Harvey sat down for an extended interview with the pair, with a half-hour TV special scheduled to air on Seven at 7pm on February 26.
