Storms could hit greater Charlotte area with heavy rain chance

A cold front will bring more storms to the greater Charlotte area, with the best chance of rain this week.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A cold front approaching will drive up more storms than what we have seen recently giving us the greater Charlotte area’s best chance for rain and storms this week.
When
Storms develop starting around noon to 2 p.m. in the Mountains and Foothills and will begin to scatter east early to mid afternoon. By mid-to-late afternoon, scattered thunderstorms will move into the Piedmont and greater Charlotte area.

The peak coverage and storm activity will be during the late afternoon and evening hours.
Summary: Isolated severe storms are possible, mainly from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. from the mountains to east of Interstate 77.
While storms will gradually diminish overnight, some lingering showers could persist into early Wednesday morning.

Impact
Heavy Rain, Isolated Severe Storms
While temperatures will remain near normal (90 degrees), the atmosphere will be primed for strong storm development. Storms could produce locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and isolated severe weather.
A few pulse-type storms may strengthen enough to cause downed branches or localized flooding, especially if training or back-building storms occur.
Rainfall rates may be enhanced by very moist air, with up to 1-2 inches of rain or more possible across the area.
