Storms leave 3,000 without power in Charlotte

Duke Energy crews are working on restoration.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Roughly 3,000 people are without power in the Charlotte area after storms Thursday night and heavy rain Friday morning, according to the Duke Energy outages map.
WCNC Charlotte Meteorologist Chris Mulcahy said some rain totals from Uptown Charlotte and areas immediately south have seen 2-5 inches of rain, which prompted a Considerable Flash Flood Warning Thursday evening.

Most of the outages are caused by fallen trees or tree limbs damaging Duke Energy equipment.
“Strong overnight thunderstorms caused damage to a number of trees and other vegetation, impacting our lines in some areas — including primary lines that serve large numbers of customers,” a Duke Energy representative told WCNC Charlotte. “Crews are actively assessing damage and working to restore power for customers as quickly and safely as possible.”
